The University launches a vital new expansion of its renowned Kent School of Architecture (KSA) on Wednesday 27 March 2019 from 15.00-17.00 in the School’s state-of-the-art Digital Crit Space on the Canterbury campus.
KSA will now include courses on planning, and be known as the Kent School of Architecture and Planning (KSAP).The new programmes will be run by planning expert Professor Samer Bagaeen.
Senior planners and members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) will be attending the launch, as well as speakers including Canterbury City Council’s Head of Planning Simon Thomas, Dover District Council’s Head of Regeneration and Development Mike Ebbs, and Andrew Wilford, Planning Director for the Ebbsfleet-based planning and design consultancy Barton Willmore.
Professor Don Gray, Head of KSA, said this is important for the region and the new, expanded School will engage with and offer opportunities to all the planning authorities in Kent.
He said: ‘With the intended major strategic planning developments in the region, including the Ebbsfleet Garden City and the Lower Thames Crossing, excellence in planning skills has seldom been more important. It is timely for KSAP to evolve to introduce Planning as part of its academic offer in order to meet the demand for high quality planners for the future. The School will be offering apprenticeships through affiliation with local authorities and private practices in the region.’
