The University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University are working in partnership to submit a joint bid for Government funding to support the development of a medical school in the Kent and Medway area.

The bid follows the recent announcement by the Government of a commitment to fund an additional 1,500 medical places by 2020, and will be subject to a competitive process led by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and Health Education England.

The criteria for the competitive process will take into account a range of priorities including widening participation in the medical profession and aligning expansion to local needs with an emphasis on rural and coastal areas.

Christ Church and Kent are joined in this partnership venture by Brighton and Sussex Medical School, which has agreed to be the ‘partner medical school’.

The deadline for the bid is 23 November 2017.
