Sports Science Professor appears in 'Speed with Guy Martin'

Professor Sam Marcora from the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences will appear in 'Speed with Guy Martin' on Channel 4.

Featuring in the second episode of the series, which airs on Sunday 2 November at 9pm, Professor Marcora can be seen assisting Guy Martin during an altitude test in the University’s atmosphere chamber. The chamber can recreate various environments by altering settings such as temperature, humidity and altitude.

Professor Marcora’s research focuses on endurance performance with particular interest into motorcycling. His expertise was called upon for the episode which will include Guy Martin taking part in a gruelling mountainside motorcycle ride that finishes over 4000 metres above sea level.

The filming with Channel 4 and Guy Martin took place earlier this year.

The chamber is part of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences’ facilities based at Medway Park. The chamber also featured in a news item with BBC Newsbeat relating to the World Cup.
