Kent TV, InQuire student newspaper and CSRfm radio station have won a record number of seven awards at national student media conferences.

Kicking off the victories in late March, Kent Television (KTV) secured two wins at the National Student Television Association (NaSTA) Awards held at Preston University placing top in the very first category of the night. ‘Brand New Eyes’ creators Adam Kennedy and Eoin Gallagher proudly accepted the award for ‘Best Title Sequence’, very shortly to be followed by a hard earned win for ‘Best Cinematography’ for KTV, beating 21 other stations to the number one spot.

Barnaby Chadwick, KTV Station Manager, said ‘This year has demonstrated just how much KTV has grown in terms of engagement of members and audience, quality of production, technical capabilities and how, in three short years of existence, so much has been achieved.’

KTV has picked up an impressive five NaSTA’s since it was founded only three years ago in 2012.

The next set of celebrations came on Saturday 11 April at the Student Publication Association National Conference, held at the University of Southampton, when Kent student newspaper and digital publication group ‘InQuire Media’ took home two awards – their first ever on a national scale.

‘This year has been an incredible year for InQuire, and indeed, student media as a whole. The work our writers, photographers and editors have put in to the publication this year has been outstanding, and I can only hope that the dedication of our volunteers continues on for many more years’ says InQuire Chairwoman, Natalie Tipping.

‘Special congratulations should go to Daniel John, who has taken many excellent photos this year for the newspaper and website, and has been recognised as the Best Student Photographer by the Student Publication Association.’

Natalie also picked up the award for Outstanding Commitment (Highly Commended) at the awards.

And finally at the National Student Radio Association Conference, hosted by Xpression FM at the University of Exeter, CSRfm (Canterbury’s Community and Student Radio Station) picked up three I LOVE STUDENT RADIO awards, their most successful year on record yet. The very first (and most prestigious) award of the night went to Technical Manager, Aaron Cross, commending him as ‘a true unsung hero’.

In a shock win, beating an LGBT / Student Pride project from Westminster University, the station also took home the award for ‘Best Outreach Project’ for its Youth Academy project – a scheme aimed at equipping young people in the local community with the skills and experience essential for breaking into the world of radio.

Youth Academy Project Leader and CSRfm Deputy Station Manager Rachel Cribbin also took home the award for Committee Member of the Year, Highly Commended.

‘I’ve been amazed by the level of enthusiasm and determination from all the members at CSR this year. These awards show just how far we’ve come and I’m so proud of everyone who has been involved. I’m particularly pleased Youth Academy has national recognition as it’s something truly special and we’re delighted to play an integral part in our community. Here’s to another hugely successful year!’ said Station Manager, Jack Claramunt.

The station now looks forward to the Student Radio Awards held at the O2 in November, the parent ceremony which last year saw former CSRfm DJ Joel Grove bagging silver for Best Male.
