Some of the leading figures behind the Blue Labour movement will be speaking at the University’s Canterbury campus on Wednesday 4 March.

Among these will be Labour peer Maurice Glassman, the architect of Blue Labour, which describes itself as being ‘dedicated to reclaiming distinctive traditions of reciprocity and mutuality in the labour movement’.

He will deliver a lecture titled Common Good and Foreign Policy. This takes place in the Grimond Lecture Theatre 3, beginning at 5pm, and is free and open to all.

The occasion will also see the launch of a new book, Blue Labour: Forging a New Politics (I.B. Tauris), co-edited by Dr Adrian Pabst, Senior Lecturer in the University’s School of Politics and International Relations.

Two panel sessions, starting at 1pm, will see speakers discussing Blue Labour’s ideas to renew the Labour Party and the country, including Britain’s role in Europe and the world. The sessions, in the Maths Lecture Theatre, Cornwallis, are free and open to all.

Those speaking are: Ruth Davis, Political Director, Greenpeace UK; Ian Geary, Executive Member, Christians on the Left; Maurice Glasman, Labour Life Peer; David Goodhart, Chairman of the Advisory Board, Demos; Dave Landrum, Director of Advocacy, Evangelical Alliance; Rod Liddle, Columnist and Associate Editor, The Spectator; David McLellan, Emeritus Professor of Political Thought, School of Politics and International Relations, University of Kent; John Milbank, Professor of Religion, Politics and Ethics, University of Nottingham; Ruth Yeoman, Research Fellow, Mutuality in Business, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
