Research taking place in the School of Computing on the visualisation of brain patterns has been featured in a video by the British Council that will be used to promote UK innovation across China.

The video features input from lecturer Dr Caroline Ling Li, PhD student Yuzhou Lin and alumnus and research collaborator Florian Guitton discussing their work in the KMTV studios at the University’s Medway campus.

The research is focused on creating an interface that can display the changing emotions of the brain, such as a person feeling agitated or calm, even if their face does not display an obvious outward emotion.

This could have applications for healthcare, for example, by being able to identify motor control in the brain that could help with the rehabilitation of amputees.

The video is part of the British Council’s ‘Study UK, Discover you Innovation’ campaign that will be promoted in China. Kent is one of six UK universities that will feature in the short film designed to showcase the cutting-edge technology and entrepreneurship available through a UK education.
