Four students studying at the University won the annual Deloitte Cyber 'Capture the Flag' competition securing a £3,000 prize in the process.

The four students – Matthew Boakes, Calvin Brierley, Catalin Irimie and Jamie Pont – are studying in the School of Computing and the School of Engineering and Digital Arts and were one of eight teams to take part in the challenge.

The competition, which took place in London on 26 February, tested students on a range of key cyber security skills such as penetration testing, forensics, malware and intrusion analysis skills through a variety of tasks.

These included breaking poorly configured encryption schemes that are widely used in real life,  performing forensics on memory, file systems and network traffic and using tools and techniques to extract secret information hidden within files.
