Press Office

The University has announced its sponsorship of Canterbury Festival 2016 which will enable young people from across the region to be part of the Festival and also encourage engagement with the arts for the public in general.

As part of this sponsorship, the University will be for the next three years the over-arching sponsor of Made in Kent, a new Festival framework created to provide opportunities for young Kent based performers.

Supporting young artists and creative individuals through Made in Kent is vital to the future success of arts and culture in the region and the Festival’s long-term sustainability depends on it. The University’s sponsorship agreement will ensure the stability of this framework.

For many years, the University has been recognised as a cultural hub in the community, and with the University’s strong commitment to the arts, the sponsorship supports the positive and creative experience for the local and wider community which attracts thousands of visitors to the historic city.

Made in Kent complements the University’s aims of contributing to the educational and life chances of local communities, all of which will contribute to Canterbury being recognised as a thriving and attractive centre in which to live and work.

This partnership with Canterbury Festival demonstrates a commitment by both organisations to deliver arts education, develop talent and celebrate the achievements of children and young people for years to come.

The festival, which runs for three weeks from 15 October, is the region’s international arts festival which brings together a range of performing arts including music and theatre from around the world.
