Professor Chris Thomas

The naturalist and ecologist Professor Chris Thomas will be the guest speaker for the University’s 2019 Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) annual lecture on Thursday 7 March 2019.

Professor Thomas, who lectures at the University of York, leads research into how humans have changed the biological world (the Anthropocene) including climate change, the extinction of large animals and the conservation of biodiversity.

His talk entitled Surviving the Anthropocene: A story of biological gains and losses will re-examine humanity’s relationship with nature, challenging the accepted wisdom that human beings have irrevocably damaged the natural world and arguing this narrative obscures a more complicated truth.

The DICE talk will place in the Keynes Lecture Theatre 1 on the Canterbury campus from 18.30-20.00 is free and open to all. There is free parking on campus after 17.00.
