Kent academic shortlisted for major Shakespeare book award

Dr Sarah Dustagheer from the School of English has been shortlisted for the 2018 Shakespeare’s Globe Book Award.

Dr Dustagheer has been selected for her work Shakespeare’s Two Playhouses: Repertory and Theatre Space at the Globe and the Blackfriars, 1599-1613. Published by Cambridge University Press it will be available in paperback in October.

The book provides an in-depth, comparative analysis of the Globe and the Blackfriars Theatres’ performance conditions to examine how the social and sensory qualities of the sites affected early modern dramatists, audiences and actors.

She is one of four authors shortlisted and the winner will be announced on 30 July. The winner will receive a cheque for £3,000 and present a public lecture in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at the Shakespeare’s Globe.

Dr Dustagheer is a lecturer in Early Modern Literature at the University and has previously taught short courses on Shakespeare and performance in India and Germany.
