Dr Ben Thomas, an art historian at the University, is curating a new exhibition at The Courtauld Gallery in London.

The display at the gallery in the Strand aims to shed light on the creative power of drawing by staging a series of dialogues between works in the Courtauld collection.

Dr Thomas, senior lecturer at Kent’s School of Arts, said the display looks beyond traditional questions of attribution and function, and focuses on drawing as a creative act.

The display, entitled Drawing Together and running from 30 September to 2 January 2018, presents a series of sometimes unexpected encounters between pairs of drawings, ranging from a small sketch by George Romney to a gestural abstract work by Hans Hartung, taking in drawings by Antoine Watteau, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Eugène Delacroix.
