Stand-up comedian Susan Calman will deliver the 2017 Linda Smith Lecture at the University of Kent on Tuesday 16 May.

Known to Radio 4 listeners as a regular panellist on The News Quiz, Susan
Calman has also featured in two other radio series: Susan Calman is Convicted and Keep Calman Carry On.

On television she has appeared on QI and in the sitcoms Fresh Meat and Dead Boss. She is also known for her original stand-up act.

The Linda Smith Lecture with Susan Calman takes place at 7.30pm in Gulbenkian at the University’s Canterbury campus. Tickets priced £6 are available from Gulbenkian online box office.

The archiving of material from comedian Linda Smith’s personal collection with the University in 2013 provided the inspiration for the formation of the British Stand-Up Comedy Archive. Now growing into a substantial collection, it is used by comedians and those researching stand-up comedy and associated performance arts.

The Linda Smith Lecture was established in 2015 as an annual event to celebrate Linda’s life and work, her interest in comedy and its use in and for political and social commentary, and to promote the work of the British Stand-Up Comedy Archive.
