Placements abroad

Erasmus+ programme

Opportunities may be available to postgraduate students (at both Master’s and Doctoral level), to take part in the Erasmus+ mobility programme, which allows students to study or work abroad as part of their degree. Opportunities may also be available under Erasmus Staff Mobility if you also hold a contract of employment with the University.

Jointly supervised PhDs (Co-tutelles)

Jointly supervised PhDs (Co-tutelles)

Jointly supervised PhDs (commonly known as cotutelles) offer PhD students the chance to be jointly supervised by the University of Kent and a university in another country. This results in a dual, or sometimes
a joint, award of a PhD from Kent and a doctorate from the partner university.

Kent has existing cotutelle partnerships with a range of institutions including:

  • Université Paris VIII Vincennes Saint-Denis, France

  • University of Cologne, Germany

  • University of Ghent, Belgium

  • University of Lausanne, Switzerland

  • University of Technology, Sydney, Australia

  • Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium

AHRC & ESRC Funding opportunities for International Mobility

The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) has an International Placement Scheme (IPS) to support and encourage the placement of UK postgraduate students and early career researchers on short-term fellowships at a number of overseas research institutions.

All full-time ESRC studentship holders are eligible to apply for financial support for overseas institutional visits within their studentship period, to visit overseas universities or esteemed research organisations.
