Beacon Projects

The Beacon Observatory

The Beacon Observatory will create an Astronomical Observatory on campus, with both optical telescope and radio telescope capability.

This Observatory will include a new dome and optical telescope (replacing the old dome) with all the necessary equipment, along with a low-frequency radio telescope.

This facility will be motorised and connected to the internet, so that observations can be carried out remotely, either by undergraduate students, members of staff, local schools, interested local amateur astronomy groups and/or members of the public.

It will provide student training within physics, public engagement in research, leading outreach activities and student/staff participation across the Faculty and improving the physics recruitment profile by attracting applicants of high qualification.

Up to date news and images from the Beacon Observatory can be found on the Beacon Observatory's Facebook page.
