The UK premiere of a film about a US Jewish philanthropist who spent his fortune ensuring that African American children could attend school will take place at the University on Sunday 23 October.

The film, Rosenwald, tells the story of Julius Rosenwald, the son of immigrants from Germany, who become one of the 20th century’s most successful businessmen and effective philanthropists.

The screening, at the University’s Gulbenkian cinema at its Canterbury campus, takes place at 19.00 and is free and open to all, with any donations going towards the Gulbenkian’s work with children and young people. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.

The premier has been organised by the University’s Centre for Philanthropy and will also feature a Q&A session after the screening to discuss the role of philanthropy in the UK.

The University launched its MA in Philanthropic Studies this year and the first cohort of students will be attending the screening, along with Trevor Pears, of the Pears Foundation, who has donated almost £200,000 to the University to support teaching and research on philanthropy.
