Leading experts in different areas of sexuality and gender will consider current scientific research on the topic at a discussion event on 24 November.

The event, entitled ‘Born this way’ in contemporary science: Multidisciplinary approaches to sexuality and gender, takes place from 1-6.30pm at the Canterbury campus Darwin Conference Suite. It is free and open to the public.

The discussion will consider that although sexuality is an important topic in society and life, it is also one that has to date been considered from a traditional two-sex, two-gender, heterosexual-only perspective.

The event will consists of talks by the six experts presenting research from multiple perspectives, and will conclude with a panel discussion. There will be opportunities for audience participation at the end of each talk, as well as during the final discussion.

Among the experts presenting will be geneticist Professor Peter Goodfellow, of Kent’s School of Biosciences, criminologist Dr Marian Duggan, of its School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research and psychologist Dr Gerulf Rieger, of the University of Essex.

The event has been organised by the University’s Biological Anthropology Research Group and its Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Reproduction. For more information see.
