Newspaper executive Robin Hu awarded honorary degree

The South China Morning Post CEO has received his degree from the University at a ceremony in Canterbury Cathedral.

Robin Hu is Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post Group. Appointed in 2012, he was previously a senior executive at Singapore Press Holdings. He is an alumnus of the University, graduating in 1980 with a BSc in Mathematics.

He received a Doctor of the University degree in recognition of his contribution to business and communications.

Robin Hu was born in Taiwan. His family moved to Singapore when he was twelve years old where he attended Hwa Chong Institution and National Junior College.

After graduating from Kent, he obtained an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Wales. He then held various management positions with the Economic Development Board of Singapore, Singapore Telecom and internet start-up Asiacontent.com. Between 1998 and 1999, he served as Counsellor (Industry and Investment) at the Singapore Embassy in Beijing.

As CEO of the South China Morning Post Group, Robin Hu has directed the transformation of Asia’s most admired English language newspaper into a digital media brand.

Robin Hu is also active in public service. He has served as Chairman of Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Chairman of Singapore Centre for Chinese Language and was a board member of the Singapore Civil Service College and Singapore Health Promotion Board. He is passionate about education and served as a board governor to Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Junior College in Singapore. He is currently a member of the Board of Governors to the Singapore International School in Hong Kong.
