50th Festival by University of Kent

Celebrations at the University to mark its half century will culminate in a fun-packed 50th Festival over the first weekend in September.

The 50th Festival, taking place at the  Canterbury campus from 4-6 September, will feature music, academic lectures, ‘have-a-go’ sports activities and family fun.

The Festival starts on Friday 4 September with an evening event in the spectacular surroundings of Canterbury Cathedral to celebrate the University’s many successes over the past 50 years. Booking for this event is required.

Then on Saturday 5 September, the campus will host a series of fun activities and events open to the community, alumni, staff and students.

Researchers in the School of Anthropology and Conservation will take a surface scan of people’s faces to show what they would have looked like as a Neanderthal 200,000-300,000 years ago. And with help from our resident space scientists at the School of Physical Sciences, children can design, build and launch a rocket.

Sporting types will be able to get involved in archery and bubble football among a host of activities – and they’ll even be a chance to watch chess Grandmaster John Emms play blindfolded.
