Ireland’s ambassador to Great Britain will give a talk to students and staff at the University on Monday 2 February.

His Excellency Daniel Mulhall will give a talk entitled Irish Diplomacy in a Globalised World. The visit is the second to Kent by an ambassador as part of the School of Politics and International Relations (POLIR) new Beacon Project, known as Diplomacy@Kent.

In October 2014, Matthew Barzun, US Ambassador to the UK, also gave a talk at the University to mark the launch of Diplomacy@Kent.

Head of POLIR, Professor Richard Whitman, who is co-director of Diplomacy@Kent, described Ambassador Barzun’s visit as ‘a tremendous opportunity for students to gain access to one of the most highly regarded and respected diplomats in the world today’.

Beacon Projects are part of the University of Kent’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The initiative consists of twelve innovative projects which are exploring areas where the University might be able to go forward in new and enterprising ways.

The talk by Ambassador Mulhall will take place in Grimond (GLT2) and commence at 7pm with a drinks reception to follow at 8pm (admission is free).
