A 50th anniversary project on 'Radical Women' will showcase ways that feminist academics at Kent have improved women's rights and wellbeing.

The University played a pioneering role in the establishment of Women’s Studies as a legitimate and respected discipline in UK higher education in the 1970s, offering the first UK course in this subject. Subsequently, Kent has enjoyed an unparalleled reputation for feminist research, primarily, but not exclusively, in the Social Sciences.
Throughout 2015, the Radical Women project team is planning a number of events and activities to celebrate feminist achievements at the University, setting them in the context of research over the past 50 years. The first of these, the ‘Radical Women Symposium’, takes place on 21 March 2015.
Speakers will include current staff and students, and also activists and experts from the local community, former students from the Kent Women’s Studies programme, and visiting speakers. The one-day event starts at 9.30am and will be followed by a drinks and buffet reception.
Booking is free and is now open, by clicking on the event registration pages.
