Sophus zu Ermgassen, an ecological economist and Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) has been included on ENDS Report’s Power List of the most influential environmental professionals in the UK.
The ENDS Report is one of the UK’s most reputable sources of intelligence for environmental professionals, delivering news, analysis and reference across the carbon, environmental and sustainability agenda. Sophus, whose interdisciplinary research focuses on nature conservation and sustainability science, was nominated by industry professionals to be included on the Power List.
Sophus’ latest research has explored biodiversity finance and infrastructure sustainability, with particular attention to Biodiversity Net Gain and biodiversity offsetting. His work has featured in the Guardian and the Times, while he also made a guest appearance on BBC Countryfile in 2021.
Alongside his work in academia, Sophus is part of Natural England’s Biodiversity Metric expert advisory group, the UK Treasury’s Biodiversity Economics working group, and was an expert contributor to UK Environmental Audit Committee report on Biodiversity and Ecosystems, and the Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology’s POSTBrief on biodiversity net gain.
