Student shortlisted for BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Charlotte Evans MBE, a student at the University’s Medway campus, has been shortlisted for the 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Charlotte is a guide for Paralympic skier Kelly Gallagher, with whom she is jointly nominated. Together they won Great Britain’s first ever Paralympic gold medal at the winter games in Sochi in 2014.

They have been shortlisted for the coveted award alongside some of the world’s most well-known sports personalities, including newly crowned Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton, golfer Rory McIlory, footballer Gareth Bale and fellow Medway athlete and skeleton competitor Lizzy Yarnold.

Charlotte (23), from Medway, who attended Rochester Grammar School and then Mid Kent College, was also awarded an MBE for services to Paralympic sport in 2014.

She is currently in her third year studying Sport and Exercise Management, in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, at the University’s Medway campus.
