EC funding award for teaching and research

The University has had its teaching and research quality recognised with a prestigious funding award from the European Commission (EC).

Supported by EC funding, the University, within a consortium co-ordinated by the University College Dublin, will form a Jean Monnet Network  on ‘Addressing the needs of Teaching Education and Research on European Foreign Policy’ . The network promises the creation of a powerful epistemic community of experienced and early career scholars that can drive cutting-edge research and teaching in EU foreign policy across the global academic community.

Professor Richard Whitman, Head of the University’s School of Politics and International Relations and leading Kent’s activity within the Network said: ‘Kent’s participation puts us at the heart of training the next generation of researchers and teachers focusing on the EU’s global role. It also reinforces the reputation of the University’s Global Europe Centre as major centre of excellence within Europe and beyond.’

This latest award builds on Kent’s success under the EC’s Jean Monnet Programme. In 2012, the University’s Brussels School of International Studies (BSIS) was awarded funding to establish a Jean Monnet Chair. It has also received a European Module grant from the same programme to fund the development of a new law teaching module on EU Migration Law. In 2013, the University of Kent’s was awarded funding for the establishment of a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, a Jean Monnet Chair within the Global Europe Centre for Professor Elena Korosteleva, and a Jean Monnet Multilateral Research Group (MRG) led by Dr Tom Casier.
