Karate world champion hosts boot camp

World Karate Champion and Kent alumnus Wayne Otto is hosting a boot camp at Canterbury.

The Ultimate Karate Fighters Boot Camp, hosted with Kent Sport, takes place at Canterbury campus from 31 July to 2 August. In the first of what will become an annual event for athletes with experience at regional, national or international level competitions, participants will learn fitness and conditioning, training drills and routines, attacking and defensive techniques, fighting scenarios and strategies.

The elite coaching team includes: Elisa Au Fonseca from the USA; Alex Biamonti from France, both 5th dan and winners of World Champion titles; Greg Francis, black belt 5th dan and a qualified fitness instructor and personal trainer who teaches karate and fitness (FIT2FITE) across the globe; Raik Tietze, cross training and fitness expert and jiu jitsu champion; and Albert Forsythe, sprint trainer.

Wayne Otto (5th Dan) co-founded the Karate Club at the University in 1989. He led the club to glory as national champions in the British University Sports Federation (BUSF) in 1991. In 1997 he became Britain’s most successful karate exponent, gaining his ninth World Championship title at the World Cup Championships in Manila. He is currently the National Coach for Norway and an international coach, in demand by national teams and karate federations around the world. In 2001 he was awarded an OBE for services to the sport of karate.
