Lisa Davies

Assistant Lecturer in Music Performance

Lisa Davies is a freelance guitarist, recording engineer and guitar teacher specialising in rock, pop and big band.

Lisa Davies is a lead guitarist who toured the U.K. and Europe with all female rock band 'The Playgirls' for ten years prior to embarking on a Music Technology degree. During this time, Lisa secured artist endorsement agreements with Parker Guitars in the U.S. and Roland in the U.K. and was recognised by Guitar Techniques Magazine editor Neville Marten, winning a young guitarist award. Lisa was awarded the first music scholarship at the University of Kent at Medway as well as an academic scholarship via MidKent College and a bursary from The Soroptimists. She subsequently went on to achieve a first class honours degree finishing first in her class and winning the faculty prize at graduation.

Lisa initially studied I.T. becoming the youngest person in the U.K. to achieve full membership of the prestigious British Computer Society and as a result was asked to lecture at the annual BCS residential tutorial and was involved in writing the course manual. After many successful years as a systems analyst and computer programmer, redundancy created an opportunity for retraining and she undertook a two year City and Guilds course in sound engineering, achieving distinctions in both the practical assignments and written papers. Lisa then went on to work as a lecturer in the music department at MidKent College whilst undertaking the degree course.

Lisa was the president of the Universities at Medway Music Society and a founder member of the Universities at Medway Big Band and now runs The Lisa Davies Big Band, a full 18 piece band playing modern jazz, jazz-rock, funk, latin and swing. Lisa was also the guitarist for the long established Donn Barcott Big Band for over 4 years. She is a freelance musician, playing in theatre shows, various bands and recording music for professional theatre use. She is currently composing and recording with leading session musician Gail James.
