Healthcare Management MSc

Kent Business School is an excellent place to study. Go for it! You will enjoy the experience at Kent and enhance your future career and job prospects.

Why did you choose to study at Kent Business School?

I chose to study at Kent Business School (KBS) because it has a great reputation, and it was a convenient location for me as I live in Chatham.

What attracted you to your programme of study and why?

Having completed an undergraduate degree in nursing, I decided I wanted to gain further insight into the business world of healthcare to understand what happens behind the scenes of front-line nursing. The Healthcare Management Master’s gave me the opportunity to gain business knowledge across different areas and I was able to meet with several business orientated individuals. I also met with a variety of interesting people from different backgrounds and nationalities, which made seminar discussions more vibrant by bringing different views together.

What support do you receive as a student?

I received a lot of support from the tutors and administrative staff. During the COVID pandemic, the support I got from the University was enormous. There is a very strong network of people available to postgraduate students, from the union to the KBS careers department.

How does a postgraduate degree differ from your previous studies?

My postgraduate degree was delivered via lectures and seminars, and I was able to pick some optional modules that I was interested in. I was also exposed to the world of research at Master’s level, which will enable me to go on to do a PhD. Studying a postgraduate degree offered me a further higher education qualification in one specialised area and an additional set of skills for my CV.

What areas of study have you most enjoyed and why?

I enjoyed every aspect across all modules as they were interesting, interactive and new to me, so I never experienced a boring moment. Also, being able to link theories and ideas between modules helped with my understanding of the business side of the healthcare industry, the economy of the NHS and general concepts and ideas of the business world more generally.

What are the facilities like in your school and on-campus generally?

Everything that students could want or need is provided. KBS was perfect for study areas, coffee breaks and socialising between classes. The library is enormous and grand with plenty of different areas to study, either in a group or independently.

Have you used any of the resources provided by the Graduate and Researcher College?

I have used some resources provided by the Graduate and Researcher College and I have attended a variety of networking events. I also attended one of the bonus classes on entrepreneurship, the Business Start-Up Journey, which focused on setting up your own business.

What are you planning to do next?

I plan to continue studying and do a PhD if everything goes well!

How do you think your studies at Kent will affect your career prospects?

My studies have allowed me to peep into the business world, learn from business-orientated individuals and gaining a Master's degree means I will be able to undertake a PhD.

Any advice for those thinking about taking a postgraduate degree at Kent?
