What we do

Campus Security are the main providers of security within the University estate. Campus Security are responsible for the provision of the following services:  

  • Security and safety of students, staff, visitors, buildings and other University assets
  • Provision of 1st Aid responders
  • Mental Health 1st Aid responders
  • Pastoral care for students and staff.
  • Safeguarding and welfare checks
  • Operating the 24/7 control room and CCTV system
  • Liaison with emergency services
  • Patrolling of the estate
  • Emergency and Major Incident response
  • Alarm response including Fire, Intruder, Panick etc.
  • Spillage response
  • Special events security
  • Building access/Key control
  • Lost & found property
  • Out of hours concierge service
  • Maintenance triage, call out and affecting minor works


Meet the Team

There are over 50 staff engaged on security duties, operating on shifts 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. You will always be able to contact a member of security staff, whatever the time of day.  

The Team are headed up by Mark Arnold as Head of Security (m.c.arnold@kent.ac.uk) and his Deputy, Lisa Collinson (Collinson@kent.ac.uk) with 6 Duty Managers at the Canterbury campus, and 1 Duty manager at the Medway campus who are responsible for delivering a first-class security service to staff, students and visitors.
