Gender Data Gaps
A Femquant one day workshop

Sponsored by the Gender, Sexuality and Culture Research Cluster and Kent Q-Step.

The ability to study gender inequality in all its manifestations, as well as the lives ofwomen and girls more generally, is undermined by missing and selective data insurvey and administrative datasets. In many ways, as recently stated by MelindaGates, 'data [are] sexist'. Gender data gaps exist across health, education, economic opportunities, political participation, and human security.

This interdisciplinary event will explore gender data gaps across a range of themes andregions. It will present possible solutions, including the innovations offered by bigdata to capture crucial information about the lives of women and girls. The eventframes the gender data gap as a feminist issue, one which has come about fromsurvey and administrative data design being viewed primarily through the lens ofmen's lives and concerns.
