Trip to Dover Castle
Postgraduate Heritage Walk Series

Heritage walk led by Philip Smither, PhD student from the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies.

The first evidence of occupation at Dover is the Roman lighthouse, and the site was in use right up to the 20th century during the Cold War. This tour will take in a small section of that; the history of the Keep from its construction in the 12th century through to its 13th century occupation. The site has a lot to see, so after the tour you'll be free to explore the grounds at your leisure. We will also be visiting on the first Friday of the month which will give you the chance to visit part of the archaeological stores and find out what we have been doing with the Richborough objects collection.
