Philosophy Reading Weekend

Take a break from the library!

Join the Department of Philosophy  for its annual Reading Weekend: a trip to the coast, featuring philosophical talks by fellow students, walks, games, an evening at the local pub, and a special debate by two of our brilliant postgrads on the philosophical merits of wine versus beer.

This is a great opportunity to relax mid-semester and talk philosophy with other students and staff in an informal setting, spend time doing non-philosophy outdoor activities, and read or chat in the common room.

We'll have up to six student speakers giving short presentations on the Saturday and Sunday, with lots of time for discussion. If you are interested to give a talk (e.g., present parts of your dissertation, or a paper you wrote in one of your classes, or a crazy philosophical idea you want to test out!), please contact Lauren Ware, details below.

The cost for one night's accommodation at Rippledown, including meals and the pub dinner is £33 (excluding drinks).

We are committed to hosting an accessible Reading Weekend. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible. If you would like more precise physical access information for each area, or if you require materials in alternative formats, or if you have any other access needs, please do feel free to contact Lauren and we will do our best to help. On the registration website, there is a place to note any special access and dietary requirements.

We hope to see you there!
