'Researching the Last Nawab of Bengal's English Family'-- Lyn Innes (Kent)
English Research Seminar series

'Researching the Last Nawab of Bengal's English Family'-- Lyn Innes (Kent); Respondent: Caroline Rooney (Kent)

In 1869 the Nawab of Bengal travelled to London to petition parliament for the restitution of the money and rights he believed the British Government owed him. While in London he met and married a young Englishwoman. My talk will discuss the Nawab's relationship with the British, both before and after his marriage. I will also refer to the challenges--and pleasures--involved in writing a biography of the Nawab and his English wife, and their children.

The talk will be followed by drinks in the School of English Common Room, Rutherford Extension. All are warmly welcome, especially postgraduate students.
