Portfolio guidance

Your portfolio is an important part of the admissions process. It should contain the strongest examples of music you have performed, recorded, mixed, composed or arranged.

BA (Hons) Music Business and Production

Please provide at least three examples of your musical work. These can include:  

  • sound/video recordings of your performance work 
  • original audio recordings which you have recorded, mixed, composed or arranged.

We recommend that you upload your work to a media hosting site such as YouTube.com or Soundcloud.com and provide us with the links.

You should also include a brief description of your role/s in the recordings and videos you provide. Are you the performer, composer, producer or recording engineer? Is the piece a cover, remix or an original composition? This information should be provided in a supporting document.   

You may also include evidence of any music business, marketing and events experience you have in your supporting document. This can include: 

  • links to music events you have organised and promoted 
  • links to websites, such as YouTube.com, where you have creatively promoted yourself or other artists 
  • a summary of a music business plan or project that you have completed.

Please also state any music qualifications or short courses you have not already included in your UCAS application, such as graded music exams.

BA (Hons) Music, Performance and Production

We require clear evidence of your advanced ability as a vocalist or with your primary instrument. You can also support your portfolio with additional recordings of you playing secondary instruments.

BSc (Hons) Music Technology and Audio Production

Please provide at least three examples of your musical work. These can include:

  • sound/video recordings of your performance work 
  • original audio recordings which you have recorded, mixed, composed or arranged.

We require evidence that you are familiar with using a Digital Audio Workstation. You can provide examples of your musical work using free music software and do not need to have mastered the software at this stage. We are looking for evidence of your understanding of music technology and your creative flair.
