Part-catered accommodation

Students staying in Rutherford College share a corridor with six other people. There are a mixture of standard and large rooms, two showers, a toilet and a small kitchenette which includes a fridge, kettle and microwave. Each bedroom has its own sink.

We also have adapted rooms available for students with disabilities, and where an accessible room is available it is located on the ground floor. Please see our Accessibility page for more information.

Bed and Flex Catering package

Rutherford College is part-catered accommodation with a Bed and Flex catering package. This means the cost of your accommodation includes a food allowance of £10.00 per day that can be used in a choice of ten different catering venues around campus, seven days per week, during term time only.

Applying for accommodation

Our accommodation agreement runs for 37 weeks, from September to June, and includes part of the winter vacation and all of the spring vacation. You must vacate your room for about two weeks during the winter closure period, but you can leave your belongings in your room.

Living in Rutherford College

If you're moving into Rutherford College, there are a few things you should know before you arrive. It's your home for the best part of a year, so do everything you can to make the most of your time here.

Bedding sizes and information

The bed sizes in Rutherford vary depending on your room. Make sure you know the correct size for you using our bedding size guide

You can bring your own bedding, or purchase a bedding pack plus other essentials at our partner site UniKitOut once you have been allocated to your room.

Housekeeping and laundry facilities

Rutherford College has its own launderette with laundry facilities run by Circuit Laundry. One washing machine cycle costs £2.70 and one tumble dryer cycle costs £1.30. This can be paid via the Circuit Laundry App or a top-up card.

Our housekeeping team are on-hand to provide a top up cleaning service but you are responsible for keeping your accommodation clean. For any help or advice, your local Housekeeping Office is located in Room N2:W4B in Rutherford College. Email: rutherfordhousekeeping@kent.ac.uk

Support services

Each college is headed by a Master, and the Master's Office can offer advice, help and support on university life. Masters are also responsible for enforcing University regulations and discipline on non-academic matters. Colleges also have a Resident Support Officer (RSO). This is usually a second or third year student who lives in the college and can offer advice and support.

For day to day enquiries, such as mail and parcels, receptions are located in each college. Our reception teams offer a wealth of knowledge about student accommodation and the University campus. Where to eat

Rurtherford College has it's own catering outlets, Rutherford Dining Hall and Bag-It. The dining hall offers traditional, home-cooked food while Bag-It makes your sandwich just how you like it. For opening times and menus, see the Catering website.
