Masterpieces of the Twentieth Century
Spring 2013 Open Lecture Series
Speaker: Professor Anthony Slinn

Lecture Synopsis:
Now that we are no longer in the 20th Century we can stand and look back. Anthony will take a major work from each decade, but this doesn’t mean we will only look at 10 works. Anthony will present his reasons why he chose each work and place it in its context. His selections will include painting, sculpture, architecture and constructions and he will take us through a fascinating variety of artists and genres, including Cubism in the first decade and Coventry Cathedral in the 1950s.

Speaker Biography:
Professor Slinn studied at Liverpool College of Art at the time of the Beatles, and came to study painting at London University’s Slade School where his History of Art tutor was the great Sir E.H. Gombrich. He spent thirty years teaching at various Art colleges and set up his ‘Roadshow’ in 1983 to share his enthusiasm for art and artists. Professor Slinn continues to be a full time painter and lecturer giving close to 200 presentations a year.
