Belonging looks different for every student. For some, it is the scholarship that makes higher education possible for the first time. For others, it is the emergency grant that arrives at the moment they are about to give up. For others still, it is the funding to pursue research that could change lives far beyond these campuses. We create belonging in three ways:
Making higher education genuinely available to everyone, including through Sanctuary Fund, contextual admissions and widening participation programmes.
Standing by students when they need it most, through the Kent Opportunity Fund, financial aid and wellbeing services.
Opening doors to research, careers and community, through postgraduate scholarships, mentoring and student-led programmes.
Belonging at Kent is a principle that runs through everything we do.
Initiatives such as Belonging and Beyond support students in building connections, developing confidence and finding their place throughout their university journey. The programme particularly supports ethnically marginalised students while remaining open to all members of our community.
Alongside this work, we are committed to creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds to feel welcomed and supported.
This commitment is reflected through a range of programmes include:
Belonging gives students the resilience to overcome setbacks and the confidence to pursue their ambitions.
Whether you choose to support the Sanctuary Fund, the Kent Opportunity Fund, the Alumni Postgraduate Research Scholarships, or Belonging at Kent more broadly, your generosity helps create opportunities for students to succeed and feel part of a community that believes in them.
