SANCTUARY FUND

Higher education without borders

At the University of Kent, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to study, regardless of their background. We are proud to foster a welcoming and inclusive campus for all.

In recognition of our efforts to support people seeking sanctuary, Kent has recently been awarded University of Sanctuary status—an honour that celebrates our commitment to compassion, dignity and inclusion.

Since 2019, we have offered Sanctuary Scholarships to provide five asylum seekers each year with the opportunity to pursue a University of Kent education. These scholarships include a full undergraduate fee waiver and a small maintenance grant to help with living costs.

Recipients of these awards have been through some of the most difficult and challenging experiences one can imagine. And yet their wish to receive a university education has remained constant and undimmed.

Generous donations from our alumni community have made it possible for students like Ky Tsoggerel to pursue their dreams, make a positive impact on their families and contribute to their community and our country.

You can change a life today

We are striving to increase the amount available for maintenance, with the goal of ensuring that all Sanctuary Scholars receive a maintenance allowance that allows them to undertake their studies without hardship. Your donation will directly impact asylum-seeking students, helping them rebuild their lives through their education and find a new home within the Kent community.

How your gift can help:

• A monthly gift of £10 would cover health costs for a student, such as prescriptions and dental treatment for an academic year.

• A one-off gift of £50 would cover essentials for a student, such as food and stationery for a week.

• A one-off gift of £250 would help fund a partnership project with KRAN or Napier Barracks.

• A one-off gift of £1,000 would provide psychological and legal support for an asylum-seeking student.

• An annual gift of £7,000 would help provide a student with on-campus accommodation for an academic year.
