Mako's story

Mako's story

Get inspired by Makomborero Haruzivishe, a Zimbabwean refugee studying at Kent

Hope in our Refugee Scholarship

Sanctuary scholar Makomborero Haruzivishe was nearly killed before he fled his home country Zimbabwe two years ago and is now studying law and politics in Kent.

The Zimbabwean pro-democracy activist who described surviving gunshots and a year jailed as a political prisoner has said ‘studying at Kent has helped me adapt socially, culturally and introduced me to a way of life’.

What we offer

Our Sanctuary scholarships help those seeking asylum in the UK progress to higher education.

Our Sanctuary Fund provides additional financial support to scholars, a unique induction programme and extra dedicated pastoral support.

Our Sanctuary Community

Kent provides a warm, welcoming and supportive community to anyone. This work is supported by our staff and students who give their time and expertise through volunteering opportunities and being part of our active groups.
