Who's Who
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC - Susan Wanless
Susan Wanless - Director of Music Susan read Music at Leeds University, followed by a further three years’ study there, researching into the operas of Verdi and conducting the University Chorus and Orchestra.  She then combined teaching at the University and Leeds Grammar School with an active conducting career, working with many of the choirs and orchestras in Yorkshire.  Since her appointment at Kent, Susan has been involved in a wide range of musical activities. She likens her job to an eighteenth-century Kapellmeister, and anything with the word ‘music’ on it comes her way! In 2005 she created the University’s summer ArtsFest, an event which now attracts over 6,000 people to the Canterbury campus. Susan writes and lectures on a wide variety of musical subjects, and was also Master of Eliot College from 1998 to 2001. In 2007 she was awarded The Barbara Morris Prize for Learning Support for her contribution to music provision across the University.
