Mapping Suicide Prevention with the English Higher Education Sector

The research aims to address sense-making challenges within and across HEIs around suicide and the implications for the existence or absence of a suicide prevention plan. By developing a deep understanding of the suicide sense-making process in the English Higher Education sector, this research will identify excellence and gaps in connecting meaning with action. The research will map the industry's understanding of suicide prevention and the implementation of prevention plans.

Four objectives of this research are 1. To conduct a systematic literature review and qualitative meta-analysis, with a focus on health, examining the sensemaking challenges(including issue legitimacy and equivocality) and solutions exploring their significance in addressing complex social issues such as suicide prevention within and across organisations. 2. To conduct a quantitative study in English HEIs identifying the existence of SP implementation plans and the extent of their collaborative nature. 3. To conduct a qualitative study by identifying sensemaking patterns within and across 10 cases studies. 4. To develop a manual for the systematic delivery of aligned meaning and action in SP to explore the acceptability and implementation intention of HEIs using a participatory approach.
