Inductions For New Postgraduate Students

2018 - 2019

 

 

All new postgraduate students starting in September 2018 are invited to attend an induction led by the Dean of the Graduate School during Welcome Week. These sessions will include talks from your Faculty Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, the Master of Woolf College, the Director of Student Services and the Kent Graduate Student Association.

 


 

Taught Master's Students

Wednesday, 19 September

New Taught Master's students will have the opportunity to browse information stands in the foyer of Woolf College prior to the induction presentations.

Medway Inductions

Thursday, 20 September

Postgraduate Taught (PGT)

Postgraduate Research (PGR)

11.15 – 15.45

 

The Medway Induction will include a 'Kickstart Your PhD' workshop that all incoming PhD students are required to attend. Students who are unable to make their induction will be asked to join another Kickstart session later in the term.

Postgraduate Researchers will be invited to the Graduate School after their induction for refreshments and a chance to browse information stands.


 

As well as providing general information about postgraduate study and research at Kent, the upcoming inductions will include information on the following:

  • Training opportunities provided for postgraduate researchers via the Researcher Development Programme (RDP)
  • The role of your supervisor and supervision requirements
  • Progression Monitoring stages for PhD students

Are you an incoming GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant)?

In addition to the general induction events listed above, the Graduate School invites you to two important induction sessions to get you started as a GTA at Kent:

  • Graduate Teaching Assistant Induction: Thursday, 27 September, 10.00-11.00am

  • Introduction to University Teaching Course: various dates from 24 September to 1 October

All incoming GTAs have been sent an email inviting them to these sessions and requesting that they book their place on the Introduction to University Teaching course. If you have any questions, please email graduateschool@kent.ac.uk.
