For 60 years, the University of Kent has been the backdrop to countless meaningful moments — the excitement of your offer letter, the friendship that changed everything, the spark of inspiration in a lab, or the pride of graduating at the Cathedral.
This Giving Tuesday, share your Kent moment and help today’s students create their own. Your gift to the Exceptional Hardship Fund offers immediate support to students facing unexpected financial pressures, ensuring they can stay on their course and continue pursuing their academic ambitions.
In the last academic year, nearly 470 students sought support from the Exceptional Hardship Fund, and more than 300 received assistance. In all, the fund awarded over £41,000 to help students manage unexpected financial pressures and continue their studies.

Your gift to the Exceptional Hardship Fund means a student can afford groceries, cover essential travel, or stay in their accommodation. It means they can focus on their education instead of choosing between their studies and survival.
Students who received support from the Exceptional Hardship Fund shared how a timely gift changed everything:
Without financial support from my parents, I constantly worried about covering basic living costs. This fund came when I really needed help.
At times when I felt completely hopeless, this fund gave me the support and hope I needed to keep going.
I have received the Exceptional Hardship Fund twice and I can honestly say that without it, I wouldn't have made it through my final year.
This support reminded me that people care and believe in students, no matter their circumstances. I'm truly grateful and hope others can receive this help too.
This fund was a lifeline during an emergency I never anticipated. It shows the donors truly care about our situations. I'm incredibly grateful.
