Additional costs are the mandatory or optional expenses you may need to pay during your studies. These can be for materials, equipment, field trips and work placements, and are not included in your tuition fee.

Course-specific costs

Each degree may have different additional costs, which can be found on the programme pages. You may be required to pay these costs in order to fully participate in and complete your degree.

Search for your degree programme using our course finder.

Typically, tuition fees do not cover the costs of purchasing books or stationery, printing, thesis binding or photocopying costs.

You will need your own laptop or desktop computer - the cost of which will vary according to your personal preference. We expect most students to fund their own IT equipment, but understand that for some students this will be very difficult. If you will genuinely struggle to do so, you can apply for support.

You'll also be expected to pay transport and parking costs when travelling to campus.

See 'living costs' for more details.

Placements

Before applying for a course with a placement, take time to consider the costs involved. You will typically be responsible for your own travel, accommodation and living costs unless otherwise stated.

For those planning to work or study abroad, see our advice on costs.

Library and IT services

It is free to use the library with your student ID card. However, fines are in place to ensure books and materials remain accessible to all students. Check your email for reminders to help you avoid fines and remember you are responsible for all items on your account. See more about library fines.

To use the University printers, copiers and scanners, you need a Kent IT Account. There is a small fee for printing and copying so you are required to buy print credits. See 'Print, copy or scan' for further details.

Graduation ceremony

You are invited to attend a ceremony to celebrate your graduation. In order to attend, all guests are required to hold a ticket. Payment of the graduation fee entitles you to bring up to two guests to the ceremony. Extra tickets are also available on a first-come, first-served basis.

An academic gown must be hired from the Graduate Gowning Company if you want to attend your graduation ceremony. If you do not have a gown on the day, you will not be able to graduate.

For more information about what you need to do before, during and after your graduation ceremony, see the Congregations website.

Lost student ID card

If you lose your student ID (KentOne card), a replacement costs £15.

Dissertation/thesis binding

On many courses, you will be required to have your dissertation or thesis printed and bound (typically two copies). The University's Design and Print Centre offer a binding service. See the Design and Print Centre web pages for a current price list.

Exam resit fees

If you resit an exam, a resit fee may apply.
