Kent is 60

Kent turns 60

We're proud to have six decades of progress and innovation behind us as a leading higher education institution.

Ever since we welcomed our first cohort of students in September 1965, we’ve been committed to breaking down barriers to education. Formed as part of a wave of new universities in the 1960s, Kent was established to offer something different – an inclusive, diverse education in a campus-environment that forms a key part of our region.

As we look ahead to our 60th year, we’re putting plans together to celebrate the fantastic alumni, staff and partners who have helped make our special community. We’ll be sharing some of the incredible stories that have happened through connections made at Kent while also creating special moments throughout the year that bring people together through our work.

This is also about our future plans too. We’ve never been somewhere that stands still and have ambitious plans for our next chapter, responding to local and government need while training the next generation of students through innovative, industry-linked teaching and research.

"So many of my formative experiences

took place here. Studying for my degree, my Masters, representing Kent on the netball team and on University Challenge – have led me exactly where I need to be. It’s a special place, and between us we have thousands of fabulous stories across our rich history. I hope to see you at one of our many celebration events and hear your memories!"
