Kent Volunteers

Learn about Kent's volunteering scheme for staff and how volunteering is beneficial to the local community and your own personal wellbeing.

What is the Kent Volunteering Scheme?

Kent staff can use up to 25 hours per academic year for volunteering activities during their work day.

The Kent Volunteering Scheme underlines Kent's commitment to support & encourage development and wellbeing for all Kent staff through volunteering.

Staff who use their full volunteering allowance are recognised for their commitment to volunteering and are invited to attend the Staff Recognition Awards.

Volunteering offers a great way to give back to the local community, get involved with a cause that is important to you and to enrich your life outside of work.

It's also a great way to get out of the office, meet new people and have fun!

Why should I get involved?

Volunteering benefits everyone; you get to break out of your routine to take part in something that interests you, and the people you help with your volunteering hours benefit from your great work.

See also the results from a national survey which asked volunteers questions about the impact of their time spend volunteering. Most participants shared that they enjoyed their time and felt that they made a difference.

How do I get started?

Once you've found an opportunity that you are interested in, contact the organisation to confirm that you are able to apply. Then have an informal chat with your line manager on how you can take part, then submit your volunteering application on our staff volunteering page.

What is considered volunteering?

Volunteering activities range can range from setting up local events/festivals, supporting school activities, volunteering at home (online/telephone support), charity shop work, gardening, decorating, cooking, woodland/wildlife conservation and more!
