50% tuition fee scholarship for ten students

About

The University of Kent has up to ten scholarships for full-time EU (non UK) students who wish to be jointly supervised by the University of Kent and a university in another EU member state or accession country for a double degree (cotutelle).

The scholarship provides a 50% reduction of the Kent tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for students registered for one year at the University of Kent.

Before you make an application for this scholarship please ensure you have read the University of Kent's general information about jointly supervised PhDs. You also need to make contact with the relevant academic school to identify a supervisor as (s)he will be required to submit the application to the Graduate School for consideration on your behalf.

Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence and research potential as well as how the application addresses the following:

• Why the applicant would be a good candidate for a jointly supervised PhD
• Why the development of this research link (at project, institution or supervisory level) would be beneficial to Kent and the named partner institution

How to apply

Contact the relevant academic school to identify a supervisor and discuss your cotutelle plans with him/her.  Once the academic school has confirmed it would be willing to admit and supervise you as a cotutelle candidate, you will need to take the following three steps:

1. Apply for and be offered a place on a full time PhD at the University of Kent (if you have not already done so)
2. Work with your academic school to complete the appropriate Jointly Supervised PhD Agreement and obtain approval of this from the relevant officers at the University of Kent and at the partner university.  For more details on how to apply for and arrange joint supervision, please read the University of Kent's general information about jointly supervised PhDs.

Steps 1 and 2 above must be completed for you to be eligible to be considered for the scholarship.

3. Your proposed supervisor should apply for the scholarship by sending a letter or email addressed to the Dean of the Graduate School at:  graddean@kent.ac.uk

This letter should be a maximum of 750 words:

• Describing why your supervisor thinks you would be a good candidate to receive the scholarship
• Outlining reasons for which the proposed research link will be beneficial to the institutions involved

The letter should also be accompanied by the following which can be taken from your PhD application to Kent:

• CV
• Academic references
• Research proposal

There is no deadline for applications.  Applications will be considered throughout the academic year.
