Undergraduate Degrees / A year in industry-Professional work placements

Professional Industry Work Placements

A relevant and practical approach to developing your business education and enhancing your employability.

All of our undergraduate degrees have the option of taking a year in industry on a professional work placement, providing business and managerial experience that sets our graduates apart.

Kent Business School students are offered the opportunity to enrich learning and develop their skills in a 12 month placement which is integral to their chosen degree programme between the 2nd and 3rd year of study.

With more students attending university, competition for graduate employment remains fierce, so by combining your business degree with relevant employment experience in full time salaried placement provides you with a real competitive advantage.

Companies continually target our student talent to fill their placements opportunities as we are widely respected for our business education and the additional career development opportunities we offer our students.

Professional work placements provide an enjoyable yet indispensable first-hand experience of the specific job function, organisation and industry you choose, deepening your understanding of how business really works before you enter the job market as a graduate. It's an enjoyable year too!

Benefits

Acquire real world experience to develop relevant business experience and gain a distinct employment advantage.

Taking a full year in industry affords you the chance to deepen and develop skills valued by employers such as team working, communication skills, as well as the business related skills addressed during your study. You will have the opportunity to use the tools, techniques and applications in a real business setting.

We see the benefits of this as returning students each year demonstrate the value of their placement experience in their final year of study, showing a broadened business skill set, increased self confidence and a more mature outlook towards business.

Having been out in the corporate world, you will also be better prepared for your final year of your programme which completes your degree.  You will be able to integrate many of your experiences into your learning and for some it can mean improving their final grade. Many returning students feel that they have the new found skills and confidence to really boost their student experience and overall performance.

As a graduate of Kent Business School you will have a significant competitive advantage when entering the job market. A placement year enhances your graduate employment prospects and can help you make more informed career decisions, providing you a chance to try a career path, industry or an organisation. During your placement, you may be guaranteed a ‘fast track’ application process with the company and in some cases may even be made a firm job offer.

Most of the companies we work with offer salaried placement employment, so as well as contributing to your CV, it will also help with finances, which may support you in your final year of study.

Benefits of taking a professional work placement include:

  • An opportunity to “test-drive” an industry, organisation or career of your choice.
  • A chance to improve your job prospects
  • The provision of informed career decisions.
  • Transferable real world skills application and development
  • Employers target our student talent
  • A distinct advantage when entering the job market
  • A potential for career or fast track application with your placement company afterwards
  • You get paid
  • Employment experience often means you graduate and enter a career on a higher salary
