Snakes and Ladders

Student Success Snakes and Ladders is an activity developed in 2024 by Dr Lucy Panesar and Dr Yetunde Kolajo to support staff to understand barriers to student success and to identify appropriate solutions.

The activity takes the classic board game and adds decks of cards that provide scenarios of student downfall (snakes) and advancement (ladders), derived from Student Success longitudinal research (Hensby, Adewumi and Kolajo, 2024). It includes blank ‘Catch’ cards which players can use to mitigate snakes if they can come up with plausible student support strategies. Additional ‘Campus’ cards stimulate further discussion of non-curricular factors that can influence student success.

The National Teaching Repository has also featured this activity
