Places to study on campus

If you study on the Canterbury campus, I am sure one of the things that drew you here is the stunning views. From the scenery when driving through town to the atmosphere when walking around the campus.

A student's guide to the best places to study on the Canterbury campus

If you are looking for the best place to study like those aesthetic study vlogs you see on YouTube, we’ve got you!

We would be doing the campus an injustice if we did not start from the library. Templeman library is at the heart of the main campus; home to over 1.1 million books and open 24/7 in term time. Standing at 4 floors high, it cannot be missed. A fun fact is that it can be seen from all buildings on the main campus. It is a place for everyone.

Forgotten your laptop? No worries, head over to the ground floor to loan a laptop for the day, or the PC study space on floors 1, 2 & 3. Fancy total silence? Silent study on floors 2 & 3 is the place for you. Prefer background noise? The study space on the ground floor is where you need to be. Need a table for group work? First floor is your place. Need some privacy for group work? The group study rooms on 2nd and ground floor are where you need to be.

What about when you need a break from the stress of your work. Head over to the café on ground floor to get a hot or cold drink, snack, or simply water whichever one you’re up for. If they don’t have what you want, no cause for panic as the main campus coop is a three-minute walk away.

If you live in any of the accommodations on the Canterbury campus and you prefer to study in a smaller environment, there are various study hubs scattered around the campus for each housing. All equipped with desk spaces, PCs and vending machines for snacks and hot drinks.

For those living on main campus, Darwin College PC Room 1&2, Eliot College study hub and Tyler Court study hub are at your disposal.

If you live in the Turing/Keynes area, then the famous Turing College study hub, Keynes College study hub and Keynes PC room are for you to use whenever you feel like.

If you think living in Parkwood puts you at a disadvantage, then you are mistaken because the campus also has the Nickle Court study hub and Woody’s IT hub in the Parkwood area. This saves a lot of trouble from walking a distance to the main campus.

Apart from the library, these next places are my personal favourites because not a lot of people know about them. Therefore, you are guaranteed some level of privacy while getting work done. They are the teaching buildings study spaces. First on the list: Sibson. Apart from the fact that this building has the best hot chocolate, it also has many hidden study spaces on the 2nd and 3rd floor that a lot of people are unaware that it exists. Next, we have the Pears building. Our newly built medical school building is well equipped with individual and group study spaces. Certainly, a good place to wait in between lectures.

Finally, are you studying / will you be studying at Canterbury campus? Check. Are you studying a postgraduate degree? Check. There is also a place for you. The Senate Building study hub can only be accessed by postgraduate student, so it gives you a different level of privacy.

I hope you have learnt a lot about places to study on the Canterbury campus and I hope you are able to explore all these places across your time here at the university.
