Dr Ortenca Kume

About

Dr Ortenca Kume joined Kent Business School as a Lecturer in Finance in 2008. She holds a PhD in Finance from Aberdeen Business School (2012), and a Master degree in International Management and Finance (1999) from the University of Staffordshire.
Prior to her appointment at the University of Kent, she held academic positions at Aberdeen Business School, Robert Gordon University and Business School at Canterbury Christ Church University, where she delivered courses in both accounting and finance. Dr Kume has also delivered online executive courses for University of Liverpool (Laureate Online).  

Research interests

Dr Kume’s research interests primarily are on the areas of firms’ financing decisions and their access to finance, estimation of credit risk, the role of credit rating agencies and efficiency of capital markets. She is currently working on a project that investigates the factors affecting UK firms’ investment and financing decisions. 

Teaching

Dr Kume convenes Principles of Finance (AC523) on BSc Accounting and Finance programme and Foundations of Finance (CB8021) and Credit Risk (CB9074) on MSc Finance programmes. She has previously convened and taught across a number of modules including Future and Options, Business Finance and Finance for non-financial managers (undergraduate) as well as Commercial and Investment Banking (postgraduate).

Dr Kume has also acted as Chief Examiner for the postgraduate courses delivered under the MSc in Finance suite.   

Supervision

Ortenca welcomes prospective PhD research in the areas of corporate and SMEs financing, market efficiency and measures of credit risk and other related areas.
