Think Kent: Global Showcase

A series of events and academic activities showcasing current internationalisation and global engagement being carried out by the University of Kent both in the UK and abroad.

Each Global Showcase celebrates a specific region or set of countries and follows a variety of exciting activities from across our students, staff, alumni and international partners across the globe and at home.



Asia | 2018 - 2019

From 1 November 2018, the University of Kent will be celebrating a range of Asia-related activity for its first Think Kent: Global Showcase of our 2018-19 academic year. The forthcoming Global Showcase includes activities and events across a range of major cities and locations in Asia including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Bangkok. The showcase will then continue in 2019 with events in New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur. There are also a series of related events taking place here at Kent.

Activities in China

Think Kent – Global Showcase Beijing 2018

The event will be hosted by Dr Anthony Manning, Dean for Internationalization, and will be an opportunity to hear Kent highlights from the academic schools including: Kent Business School, Kent Law School, School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science, School of Arts, School of Computing, European Centres (Brussels, Paris, Rome and Athens), Centre for English and World Languages, as well as the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research.

Biosciences research showcase

In collaboration with the British Embassy, we are holding a major showcase event in Bangkok, with the aim of disseminating our project plans and achievements so far. The event will include a scientific session at the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit from 12-5pm, with talks and poster presentations given by consortium members and their collaborators.

A meeting to discuss the MoA for the recognition of United International College (UIC) in Zhuhai, China as an Academic Centre for the delivery of Kent’s International Foundation Programme (IFP) and Pre-Master’s Programme which is in its final stages of negotiation.

Think Kent – Global Showcase Malaysia 2019

The event will be hosted by Dr Anthony Manning, Dean for Internationalization, and will be an opportunity to hear Kent highlights from Kent's recent academic activity including a special presentation from Professor Toni Williams, Head of Kent Law School. The session will also include a panel discussion on the key challenges in internationalisation, including representatives from the UK and Malaysia.

Asia-related activities in U.K & Europe

Visit from Embassy of the People's Republic of China

28 September 2018 | University of Kent

The University received a visit to its Canterbury campus from Mr Yongli Wang, the Minister Counsellor (Education) at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the UK. He was accompanied by the Second Secretary for EducationMs Haiying Yu. During the visit Mr Wang and Ms Yu met with Chinese staff and students, received tours of the campus and the School of Engineering and Digital Arts,  and learned about research at Kent. They also met with Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Karen Cox. Read more

 


 

Two Capitals’ exchange arrangement with China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU)

Students at Kent’s Brussels School of International Studies (BSIS) have the opportunity to study in Beijing for either one or two terms following the extension of the ‘Two Capitals’ exchange arrangement with China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU). Read more

Global Learning Online (GLO) project with Tamagawa University

15 October - 6 December | Virtual Exchange

The project aim is to communicate and study online with students in Japan. The joint task involves students working together to identify​ cultural interests of university students in the UK, Japan and other nations. Global Learning Online (GLO) initiative has been devised in order to complement existing options for exchange which encourage and facilitate students in studying overseas.

The University were invited to the Thai and Chinese Embassies in London where support for the Asia Showcase Events was provided by Thai and Chinese education ministers.

Kent Africa Summit 2019: Discussing Africa's future and beyond

Kent Africa Summit is a one-day conference which aims to bring together generations and individuals from differing backgrounds to talk about how we as a community can reflect on its history, analyse current affairs and discuss matters to push for change and development.

 


 

Decolonising the curriculum

The event aims to equip participants with a basic understanding of critical race pedagogy (a theoretical took applied to understand racism impacts on teaching), social justice pedagogy and critical reflective practice, enhancing educational practice by increasing cultural competence.

 


 

AE-FUNAI, Nigeria, Visit Kent

19-23 March 2019 | Canterbury campus

Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Nigeria are visiting the University of Kent as part of an Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility project. The visit is focused on capacity building.
